Canberra Elite Pool

The 8-ball pool league for Canberra's elite players

About the league

The Canberra Elite Pool tournament league exists to increase the skills of ACT eight-ball pool players at all levels.

Introduction

ACT pool players at all levels want to be competitive in a National (Australian state-to-state) environment.

To do this effectively, it is essential players’ skills increase. We believe that this will be fulfilled by playing lots of high quality and pressure matches against other skilled players. To experience pressure, it is essential to have an incentive. Prize money and playing a game we love can provide this incentive.

Our wish is that this tournament concept grows, attracting many pool players, to increase knowledge, skill level and competitiveness with our state neighbours.

All CEP administrators/Tournament Directors are volunteers and believe this is a great way to improve all aspects of entrants’ games.

All participants are requested to become members of the Canberra Elite Pool Facebook group. This group is used to share general information as well as organising matches and player correspondence.

Fees

The fee for CEP season 3 is $150 for all players.

Full payment of fees need to be paid by the advertised date (see registration email to participants). Remittance advice needs to be provided to a CEP Tournament Director (if payment does not or might not show by the advertised date).

EFT deposits should include your name and season number (e.g. John Smith CEP2) – the season number will be advised prior to registration. All details for requested fee payments have been emailed to the participants.

An amount of $380 every two years will need to be reimbursed to the Tournament Directors, who have outlaid the amount for this website's hosting, domain and email costs. This amount will be taken from the overall prize pool, split over the two years of competitions.

Prizes and trophies

The total prize pool that will be paid, will be calculated by the Tournament directors and will be advertised in the “Canberra Elite Pool” Facebook group.

Trophies will also be awarded (purchased to the approx. value of $100) and presented at the annual ACTEBA presentation night. The CEP league is amenable to any offers of sponsorship.

Round robin and matches

Information on the Round Robin (round finish by) dates has been posted in the “Canberra Elite Pool” website main page.

All match participant set up and correspondence will be made in the “Canberra Elite Pool ” Facebook group, this will allow CP TDs to review and determine if a player is not making the effort to play their opponent in a timely fashion.

If there is an exception to specific participants unable to utilise Facebook, CEP TDs will make each person in the group aware of contact details for the non-Facebook user (with their consent).

All matches are to be played at HGC, or where both players agree to play at an alternate venue, is acceptable. HGC and “On Cue Sports” have agreed to charge only a $20 table hire for each CEP match played at their venue for the RR tournament.

Each match will be a race to 11, with a flip of the coin to determine the first person to break, where alternate breaks are then to occur.

If a player is found to break out of turn (this needs to be identified before the next shot is played), then a foul break rule (utilising ACTEBA rules) is enforced. The next frame break is to continue as per the original frame break series.

If a dispute arises during the frame, then as there are no umpires, that frame will be played again. Please contact the CEP TDs at the time if this is the case or an over the phone ruling is required.

All rules and play format for the CEP tournaments are to be in line with the ACTEBA rules and by-laws as much as practically possible.

Ladders

Ladders are sorted descending based on the following priority:

  • Matches won
  • Frame difference
  • Frame win percentage
  • Frames won

Forfeits

The matches can be played in any order, though the order in the Round Robin (RR) is requested to be used. If you play or are found to have played another match (out of order) and are unable to play the proposed match for that week, you will be the person forfeiting that match if not played by the end of the tournament (determined at the end of the tournament).

Please contact CEP Tournament Directors if your opponent is either not replying to your requests to play the scheduled match, or is making it very difficult to find an agreeable date/time for the match. CEP TDs have the right to forfeit a player if they believe that player is not making enough effort to play their scheduled match for that week.

If a player has not played all their matches by the end date of the last round (last round date is shown on the website main page), then their outstanding matches in the Round Robin will be forfeited and their opponent awarded a score based on historical performance in that season.

The awarded score will be calculated as the differential between the two players' average frame difference.

e.g. After 5 matches player A has a frame difference of +50 and player B has a difference of +10. If player B forfeits the scoreline will be awarded as 11-3 to player A (player A match average is +50/5=+10; player B match average is +10/5=+2; differential is +8 which equates to an 11-3 win).

If the forfeiting player has a higher average, an 11-10 win will be awarded to the opposition (i.e. narrowest of wins).

The player who forfeits any of their matches will, a the discretion of the tournament director, pay an additional $50 entry fee (for each forfeited match) to the next CEP tournament they play in.

If a player is unable to organise a RR match for the scheduled week then they are to contact the CEP TDs as soon as practicable, for the TDs to become involved, determine the issue and attempt to resolve it. Again, the CEP TDs reserve the right to forfeit one or both players in a match if they believe a player is being obstructionist or not attempting to play their match in a timely fashion.

Round robin groups

Information on the groups makeup is posted in the “Canberra Elite Pool” Facebook group.

Finals

The Finals date and time will normally be set for a start time of 11am on a day nominated following the last Round Robin (see website main page for finals day). This will be communicated to participants in advance. This may change if it conflicts with a state/territory or Nationally recognised 8Ball event. Currently (confirmed with ACTEBA, 8Ball calendars, and HGC) there are no known conflicts with the date we have set.

The date change for finals day cannot be negotiated. If a player is unable to make the start of play on the day (the HGC opening time being 11am), they will forfeit the finals day.

Calling in saying you will be late or asking if it is all right to turn up late, is non-negotiable. I.e. If you are not there by 11am (adjudicators time), then you will forfeit the finals. I.e. Please don’t ask for a later arrival time as you will be told “No”.

A time umpire can be called (if available and willing), for each frame/match played in the finals, if one or both player requests it, with a 20/20 clock used. No umpire or time keeper will be utilised if one is not available at the time. If you believe a player is using longer than 40 seconds on shots, please halt play and request a CEP TD or available person to confirm the excessive time and to time keep.

“On Cue Sports” and HGC have kindly provided the Saturday (finals day) as fee free for all CEP finals participants. And if the Grand-Final is to be played on a further night (due to time limitations) this will also be fee free.

Scoresheets and submission of results

Scoresheet can be printed from clicking on your scheduled match within the CEP website, and clicking on the “Scoresheet” button on the right side of the screen. It is suggested both players bring a copy of the scoresheet to the scheduled match in case one player forgets it.

On the scoresheet provided, you have several columns. The first column is the frame number, the second is ticked for a master break occurring, the third is an “X” for is that person is breaking, the fourth is the score after that frame is complete, the last columns to the right are the same for the second player.

Both players will need to discuss once the match is complete, and make sure the results are sent in to the email address below (this will include final score and each person’s master breaks) to results@canberraelitepool.com

CEP TDs will attempt to update the results into the CEP website each night and by the end of each round (if a delay to updating occurs).

Support

Please contact admins@canberraelitepool.com for all personal matters, or alternatively the CEP TDs on the “Canberra Elite Pool” Facebook group if it is a general discussion or query you wish to post.
